Hire a Buggy in Limassol!

Limassol emerged out of the 2 ancient most important city-kingdoms, Amathous (to the East of this centre) and Kourion (at its West end). The magnificent setting of the Ancient Kourion Amphitheatre is used for Summer concerts and Theatrical productions.

 

In the middle ages, Limassol hosted the marriage of Richard the Lionheart with Berengaria of Navarre, from whom he crowned as the Queen of England. Thereafter, the Crusaders made their Headquarters at the Square keep west of Town, known as Kolossi Medieval Castle, where they fostered the making of wines, particularly the sweet essert wine "Commandaria", the oldest named wine in the World.

 

The Town of Limassol today, is a fully-fledged resort with a 10-mile long coastline, a busy shopping centre coupled with shopping malls in its  greater vicinity, waterparks offering a full range of services to its visitors and locals alike and a most diverse No of restaurants, tavernas and a most promising nightlife to suit all tastes.

 

Also in its vicinity, lies the placid Yermasoyia Dam, frequently visited by keen anglers, and the salt lake of Akrotiri, home of thousands of migrating birds in the Winter months and a stopover point for millions more, as they make their way to different plaes and climates, in both spring and autumn.

 

The overall development and subsequent quick progress of Limassol as a Tourist Destination and Resort, began following 1974.

 

Limassol also offers some good spots for sunbathing and clear waters. The most important of its beach locations are in Episkopi, Pissouri, Akrotiri, Amathus and Lady's Mile Beach. A bathing beach offering many services is the popular Dasoudi beach, located near the heart of Limassol's Tourist area. Other well-kept and clean beaches lie in the Amathounda and Ayios Tychonas coastal areas.

 

Limassol also harbors two Ports. The Old and the New Port. The new Port is to be refurbished to accept a greater No of Passengers with the latest facilities and amenities.

 

Furthermore, there is currently a new Coastal developent occurring adjacent to these Ports. The New Limassol Marina aims to be built by late 2012 and will offer 650 births of all sizes and inland dry docking facilities for an additional 350 boats & yachts. It will also offer real estate units (Shops, Apartments and Villas) for sale.
